An important update from HMRC: Corporation Tax reminder letters phasing out
HMRC has announced a new pilot programme launching in June 2025, aimed at reducing the number of paper letters it sends to companies regarding corporation tax deadlines and payments means that corporation tax reminder letters are being phased out.
As part of this trial, a select group of businesses with appointed agents will no longer receive CT208 paper reminders—which typically notify companies of corporation tax due dates, instalment payments, and interest charges.
This shift is part of a wider drive by HMRC to transition toward a digital-first communication model and reduce postal correspondence.
Letters that will be permanently discontinued starting this June include:
-
CT205/A (Return Reminder)
-
CT608 (Instalment Payment Reminder)
-
CT207 (Interest Statement)
-
CT209 (Payment Receipt Confirmation)
-
CT603A (List of Issued Notices) – for agents
Under the new approach, businesses and their advisers will be expected to check HMRC’s online services for corporation tax updates, liabilities, and payment records.
HMRC has confirmed:
“We are testing the impact of stopping CT208 reminder letters, starting with a limited number of businesses. If the trial proves successful, we will expand the scope and potentially make the change permanent.”
There’s no change to the underlying corporation tax obligations or deadlines—but the way you receive reminders is changing.
It’s also important to note that HMRC’s free online filing portal for company tax returns will be closing in March 2026, and small businesses will need to use commercial tax software moving forward.
